The board will look into Phiyega’s capacity to execute official duties efficiently, the Presidency said. Phiyega was blamed for misconduct that led to the deaths of 34 miners who were killed by police during mining unrest at the Lonmin Platinum Mine in Marikana, North West Province in 2012, an incident known as the Marikana tragedy.
